July 1, 2010 - LA Art House featured in Avenues Magazine

By Debra Kronowitz

Born out of a passion for art and a deep desire to help emerging artists, Margaret Perenchio and friend Ann Moss - both accomplished painters in their own right - combined theil love for art and their longtime philanthropic efforts and created LA Art House, an art gallery on the border of Beverly Hills and West Hollywood stocked with established and emerging artists back in October 2008. Modeled on the l9ín century French idea of the salon - an atelier where both artists and non-artists can exchange ideas and nurture their creativity - LA Art House is both a private studio and gallery showcasing contemporary art f rom across the spectrumí Perenchio - who has collected impressionist and post-impressionist paintings for years - has also created an atelier in the center of the space with easels for herself and other visiting painters.

Recently, LA Art House entered into collaboration with Christieís Auction House and the Hammer Museum to host unique conversations between exciting guests like comedian/author Steve Martin and painter Eric Fischl. This past May, producer Brian Grazer and painter/sculptor Jeff Koons were guests.

"ltís been a dream of mine for a long time to help emerging artists - seeing that Iím one myself; albeit a bit older!" Perenchio laughed. "But I have the means to do good on a far bigger level then just my own career. LA Art House is a place that allows me to be creative, while at the same time draw attentlon to the plight of the struggling artist who so often has very little chance of being seen or understood."

Perenchio has a dedicated friend in Grammy Awardwinning singer/songwriter Carole Bayer Sager who serves as an invaluable advisor with an eye for discovering new talent. The gallery donates all the prof its from its sales to the Hammer Projects, the Hammer Museumís program of exhibitions which showcases emerging artists from around the world. Currently on exhibit through June 6 is celebrated painter Ross Bleckner. Alongside his own work, Bleckner has chosen to exhibit pieces by five emerging artists: Ryan Sullivan, Alex Jovanovich, Peter LaBier, Talia Chetrit and Van Hanos. From drawings to photographs to video art, thts exhibition is an exciting blend of art featuring an established, modern master and the works of a new generation of artists who have caught Blecknerís eye.

On June 15th, LA Art House will host a two-person show featuring Perenchio and French artist Laurent Dareau. Although she never received any formal art training until 1999, Perenchio said she used drawing and sketching as a means of enjoyment and relaxation.

"l began taking art classes at OíNeals in Malibu and the Brentwood Art Center, simultaneously. Not long after that, lbegan spending lots of time on the East Coast and for several years attended the Art students League of New york. On trips back to Los Angeles I studied privately with Manny Cosentino" she added.

Included among Perenchioís many collectors are screen writer/director James Brooks, Sager, writer/producer Norman Lear and actor Michael Caine. The late opera great Luciano Pavarotti was also a collector
